I became a fractional beauty consultant as most of the greatest things in life happen: by accident.

Over my career, I’ve been invited to sit on consulting panels, help brands develop NPD, coach clients through 1:1 sessions, get called into agencies for consulting projects, and, of course, give more free advice over Whatsapp than I’d care to admit.

But the biggest (and best) mistake was leaning into this skill after realising that every single copywriting client I’ve had was bringing me onto more projects that had far more to do with consulting and creative direction than copy. Event planning, creative shoot directing, influencer marketing, creative mailing, campaign ideating, press liaising, trend forecasting, and product developing.

Sure, I was still doing all of the copy, but much of beauty is about the whole picture. If I were coming up with the copy for a new ad campaign, I might as well come up with the visuals and event brief to match, right?

Beauty has been my world for the last decade; I’ve worn many of its hats and this one encompasses them all.

Why do brands hire a fractional beauty consultant?

They’re looking for senior help to call on through all stages of running a business but don’t have the scale for full-time support just yet. They might need someone who works a day a week, but is involved in the nitty-gritty running of the business and can answer urgent questions or provide quick support without the need to bring someone on for a specific project.

I own long-lead projects and assist whoever on whatever task might be needed in a week. Start-ups are fast-moving and sometimes doing things a little bit differently (aka fractional hiring) is what’s needed to grow. It’s like having an on-call expert who can solve problems outside of what traditional scopes may allow, and having the network to call on external help when necessary.

Being an extension of the team, my job is to help you move smarter and faster.

FRACTIONAL BEAUTY CONSULTANT

Why work with a consultant who is also a journalist?

I can give you an insight that copywriters and beauty consultants alone can't. I've spent the past 10 years working as a journalist and beauty editor in the industry, giving me an invaluable insight into what consumers really want, and how to reach them. I help founders and brands find and elevate what makes you you.

Although I specialise in beauty, health, aesthetics and wellness, I've worked on projects within women's health, men's health, weddings, photographers, fashion, travel and pets.

"I’ve worked with Tori for many years, collaborating closely on features and coverage placements for several of my clients. So when I was managing the team at The Tape Agency, booking Tori in to run a press training day was an easy decision.

Tori led a half-day session covering everything from pitching and press release writing through to media relations, client communications and building lasting relationships with journalists. What set it apart was how genuinely tailored the delivery was; she gave each team member dedicated, individual time, making sure everyone had their specific questions answered and left with bespoke, actionable feedback.

We brought in the entire team, from interns to senior account managers, and every single person found real value in it. The team came away not only with sharper skills but noticeably more confident in putting them into practice. Tori is thorough, clear, patient and an absolute pleasure to learn from. I'd recommend her to any agency looking to invest in their press office team." — Harriet Kennett.
